Life group discussion questions
Read John 10:1-21 together as a group.
- Tim said that “language shapes culture.” Where do you see this to be evident in your own life, your family dialogue, or your self-talk? Can you recognize and give examples of some words and phrases that have guided or described your way of approaching the world?
- Read John 10:10. Even though we grow in our relationship with God over time, there are certain moments where we turn to Jesus and say, “I give up, I need more of this abundant life.” Can you remember a time like this in your life? What did it look like and what led you to this place?
- What would it mean to seek the Deeper Life that Jesus offers you daily? What needs to be let go of to fully pursue him (ex. thoughts, behaviors, tendencies)? What do you need that only God can give so that you’re able to pursue this kind of depth and filling (ex. courage, faith, Spirit power etc.)?
- Acts 1:8 links the filling of the Spirit to mission activity. “You will receive power…You will be my witnesses.” Why is this link so essential? Why is Deeper Life and Missions part of the same journey?
- If we try to serve God in mission without the Spirit’s filling what is the danger? If we focus on our relationship with God but it doesn’t lead to evangelism, service and mission what does that say about our relationship with God? Do you have ideas about how to lean into both areas (Deeper Life and Mission) in your own life?
- In John 10:16 Jesus says there are other sheep he “must bring also.” What would it look like for you to join him in this? Think locally and globally. Who are the neighbors that Jesus is inviting you to minister to? What does it look like to care about those around the world who lack gospel access i.e. giving, prayer, going, sending.
- As a group, what adjustments could we make to passionately pursue Jesus in freshness and also join him in His mission to bring all people to Him?
